Fleiner's research spans geriatric physiotherapy with emphasis on evidence-based interventions for aging populations. His work integrates physical activity monitoring, fall prevention strategies, and movement-based therapies for dementia care. He leads several significant projects including Perturbationstraining zur Sturzprävention, Prometheus-Projekt for prevention in aging, Gerontopsychiatrie in Bewegung collaboration, Chronosense for circadian movement monitoring, and CiMoDem for circadian behavior in dementia. His research bridges clinical practice with scientific investigation, focusing on practical applications that improve quality of life for elderly patients with complex geriatric conditions.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications reveals a strong focus on geriatric physiotherapy interventions, particularly examining physical activity, fall prevention, and dementia care. His work increasingly incorporates technology-based monitoring systems while maintaining clinical relevance. The publications span high-impact journals across geriatrics, rehabilitation, psychiatry, and public health, demonstrating interdisciplinary reach. Recent work shows growing emphasis on circadian aspects of movement behavior, cost-effectiveness of interventions, and implementation of evidence-based practices in real-world settings.
His scientific recognition includes:
- 2017 German Society for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Neurology Promotional Award
- 2019 German Society for Gerontopsychiatry and Psychotherapy Poster Award
- 2020 Teaching Award from German Sport University Cologne
