Tim Crane is a Professor of Philosophy and Pro-Rector for Foresight and Analysis at the Central European University (CEU) in Vienna. Previously, he held the Knightbridge Professorship of Philosophy at the University of Cambridge and served as Director of the Institute of Philosophy in London. He earned his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge in 1989. His work focuses on philosophy of mind, metaphysics, and intentionality, emphasizing the mind's representational capacity. He currently explores the nature of the unconscious and belief systems.

Research Interests: Crane challenges scientistic reductionism while advocating for science-informed philosophy. He argues that intentionality is the mind's essential feature. Current Projects: Leading the FWF Cluster of Excellence 'Knowledge in Crisis'. Engages in public philosophy through writings on AI ethics, academic publishing critiques, and the role of religion in open societies.
Grants & Collaborations: Collaborates with Katalin Farkas on belief theory and implicit cognition. His work appears in Oxford Studies in Philosophy of Mind and the Routledge Handbook to Philosophy and Implicit Cognition.
Labs/Teams: Directs research for the FWF Cluster, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue on societal knowledge challenges.
