Tim Baird is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at Virginia Tech, affiliated with the College of Natural Resources and Environment. His research focuses on human-environment interactions, particularly in East Africa, exploring topics like conservation, livelihood diversification, and ICT impacts. He also investigates smart environments and education spaces, integrating technologies like lidar for indoor geography studies.

He advises graduate students on topics ranging from Maasai social networks to sensor technologies in learning environments.
