His research interests span public health, social inequality, mental health, loneliness, and longitudinal data analysis. He investigates how socioeconomic factors, parenting practices, and geographic contexts shape mental health outcomes, with a particular emphasis on adolescence and young adulthood. Recent work includes studies on brain age indicators of internalizing problems and trauma's impact on psychosocial well-being.
His publications over the past five years reveal a focus on longitudinal and population-based studies, often leveraging geographic information systems (GIS) and structural equation modeling. Key themes include substance use, self-esteem, disordered eating, and the interplay between social environments (e.g., school party culture, digital media) and mental health.
Notable scientific contributions include co-developing Nabolagshelse.no, a platform for geospatial public health analytics, and leading large-scale studies on Norwegian adolescents' psychosocial well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic.
