Dr. Till Mostowlansky is an anthropologist affiliated with the University of Sussex, specializing in the anthropology of development, globalization, and Islam. His research focuses on transnational Shia networks spanning Tajikistan, Pakistan, Iran, and India, as well as connectivity between China and Central Asia.
His work is grounded in extensive fieldwork conducted in Tajikistan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, and India since 2005. He has authored Islam und Kirgisen on Tour (Harrassowitz 2007) and is completing a monograph titled Azan on the Moon (University of Pittsburgh Press, forthcoming). Additionally, he co-edits a special issue on “Language and Globalization in South and Central Asian Spaces” for the International Journal of the Sociology of Language.
His research explores the interplay of modernity, transnational religious practices, and development in Central and South Asian contexts, with a focus on how local and global dynamics shape contemporary societal structures.
