Till Kühl

Dr. Till Kühl serves as a Researcher at the Institute of Prehistory and Early History, Kiel University, within the Excellence Cluster ROOTS. His role since May 2021 involves field archaeology, technical excavation leadership, logistics, and geomagnetic prospection. Previous positions include research assistant roles at Streichardt & Wedekind Archäologie (2020-2021), Kiel University (2018-2019), and Tübingen University (2016-2017).

He earned his PhD in Prehistory and Early History from Kiel University in 2019. His dissertation examined North Sea coastal regions as migration spaces during the 16th-17th centuries, focusing on Dutch religious refugees, craftsmen, and merchants through archaeological analysis.

Dr. Kühl's research centers on Historical Archaeology, with specialization in Medieval and Modern Archaeology and Migration Studies. His expertise includes Coastal Archaeology of the North Sea region and early modern material culture. He employs field techniques like geomagnetic prospection to investigate social transformations, particularly within the ROOTS cluster's framework examining long-term societal dynamics.

As part of the Excellence Cluster ROOTS, he collaborates on interdisciplinary projects integrating archaeological data with historical and environmental research to understand human responses to social change over millennia. His technical proficiency in excavation leadership and geophysical survey supports field projects analyzing migration patterns and cultural exchange in early modern Europe.
