Tijmen Pronk is an Assistant Professor and Director of Education at the Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL) within Leiden University's Faculty of Humanities. His research focuses on historical and comparative linguistics, with specialization in the Balto-Slavic language family and Indo-European studies. He investigates language evolution through ancient texts and dialectal variations, notably analyzing Proto-Indo-Anatolian terminology and Judeo-Slavic glosses.
Dr. Pronk teaches Linguistics at both BA and MA levels, emphasizing pedagogical innovation such as creating MOOCs. His work bridges archaeology and linguistics, proposing theories about early societies through language patterns. He actively participates in academic outreach, including the Taalkundeolympiade, and holds an ORCID identifier (0000-0003-0607-7124).
His recent publications (2022) explore verbal morphology in South Slavic dialects and the chronology of Proto-Indo-Anatolian based on animal exploitation terminology. Earlier work (2018) reinterprets Judeo-Slavic glosses as critical evidence for Sorbian linguistic origins, challenging traditional assumptions about West Slavic dialectal divisions.
