Steven Truxal

Steven Truxal is a Professor of Air and Space Law and Director of the International Institute of Air and Space Law at Leiden University. He holds a BA from George Washington University, an LLM from the University of Westminster, and a PhD in Air Law. His research focuses on aviation regulation, EU law, environmental policies in aviation, and competition law. Prior to academia, he worked in the aviation industry and government. Truxal has authored influential works such as Competition and Regulation in the Airline Industry (2012) and Economic and Environmental Regulation of International Aviation (2017).

His recent work includes analyses of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) regulation in the EU and the impact of state aid on air transport during the COVID-19 pandemic. Truxal advises on legal frameworks for aviation policy and collaborates internationally, including roles at the City Law School and Humboldt University.
