Tiffany Fisher is an Associate Professor and Associate Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Department of Neurology. She is also the Chief of the Division of Epilepsy, focusing on clinical and research advancements in seizure disorders. Her career spans neurology, epilepsy surgery, and neuromodulation technologies.
- Education: PhD in Neuroscience (Wake Forest University, 2007), MD (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 2011), Residency and Fellowship in Neurology and Epilepsy (UNC Chapel Hill, 2012–2016).
Her research interests center on optimizing patient outcomes through stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) for seizure monitoring in responsive neurostimulation (RNS) patients and elucidating neuromodulation mechanisms. She has pioneered robotic-guided implantation techniques in bitemporal lobe epilepsy, bridging engineering and clinical neurology.
The research trends in her publications highlight interdisciplinary work in epilepsy management, neurostimulation, and robotic surgery. Her 2024 study explores physical activity barriers in RNS patients, while her 2018 work details robotic precision in neurostimulator placement. Earlier work (2006) investigates attention dynamics and synaptic responses in neural circuits.
She received the Excellence in Education and Mentorship Award (2021) for her contributions to teaching and mentorship. Her clinical expertise includes EEG, electrocorticography, epilepsy surgery evaluation, and deep brain stimulation (DBS).
