Tierney McClure

Tierney McClure is a freelance flutist and educator currently serving as a part-time Adjunct Professor of Flute in the Department of Music at DePauw University, based in Bloomington, Indiana. Her academic background includes performance training at prominent institutions with notable pedagogues.

Education:

• Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance, Bowling Green State University
• Master of Music in Flute Performance, Indiana University (studied under Thomas Robertello, Conor Nelson, and Joel Tse)

Research Interests: McClure specializes in contemporary flute repertoire development, with concentrated work on premiering new compositions by underrepresented creators and reviving obscure works for unconventional ensembles. Her performance research emphasizes expanding flute literature through collaborations with living composers and exploring historical performance practices for forgotten chamber music.

Advising and Grants: During her graduate studies, McClure served as Associate Instructor for Indiana University's flute studio for three years and taught at the Jacobs Flute Academy. Her research has been supported by the ProMusica grant and Dorothy Mackenzie Price International study scholarship, enabling international study and new music commissioning projects.

Ensembles: As co-founder of Prism Winds, she actively promotes new music by marginalized composers through woodwind quintet performances. With Ivory Winds, she researches and performs historically neglected repertoire for woodwind-piano combinations, focusing on technical and interpretive approaches for unconventional instrumentation.
