Tianyi Wang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Toronto. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh (2020), an M.A. from the same institution (2018), and a B.A. from Colgate University (2015). His research focuses on political economy, economic history, health economics, and labor economics, with particular emphasis on the societal and political impacts of media and communication technologies. Key areas include historical analyses of media influence during the Civil Rights Movement, McCarthyism’s effects on Hollywood, and the role of technology in labor markets.
Wang is a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and an IZA Research Fellow. He serves on the editorial board of Explorations in Economic History. His work spans modern and historical contexts, examining topics such as industrial robots’ health impacts, water purification’s role in reducing infant mortality disparities, and the interplay between physicians’ family dynamics and patient health outcomes.
His office is located at Max Gluskin House, 150 St. George Street, Room 354, Toronto. He actively contributes to academic discourse through teaching, research, and editorial roles, bridging historical and contemporary economic challenges.
