Thorsten Foegen is a Senior Lecturer in Classics at Durham University since 2010. He holds a Dr. phil. (2000) from Heidelberg University and is a Privatdozent since 2009. His academic journey includes roles as Assistant Professor at Humboldt University Berlin (2002–2009), Visiting Professor at Konstanz University (2008–2009), and fellowships at institutions such as the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (2015–2016) and UCLA (2007–2008).
Education highlights include studies at Freiburg, Oxford, and Heidelberg, culminating in M.A. (1996) and doctoral work supported by DFG (1997–2000). His research focuses on Latin literature from the late Republic to early Empire, with specialization in technical texts, epistolography, and animals in antiquity.
Notable publications include monographs on Roman linguistic attitudes and technical writing, plus edited volumes such as Interactions between Animals and Humans in Graeco-Roman Antiquity (2017). His work bridges classical philology with interdisciplinary cultural studies.
