Thomas van den Akker

Prof. Thomas van den Akker is an Endowed Professor in the Faculty of Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Athena Institute, Network Institute, and APH - Global Health. His work focuses on maternal and neonatal health, maternal mortality, and obstetric practices. Key research areas include cesarean sections, labor management, and global health equity. Recent studies address maternal health in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, and Tanzania, alongside clinical trials on preterm infant care.
