Thomas Yeager

Dr. Thomas Yeager is a Senior Lecturer in Biotechnology within the First Year College at Victoria University, where he has been employed since 2010. With a strong background spanning both academic research and industry experience, Dr. Yeager brings practical insights to his teaching and research endeavors. His professional journey includes significant industry roles at Promega and CSL, providing him with valuable real-world perspective that informs his academic work.

Dr. Yeager's educational background includes a BSc from UAF Australia, a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Education from VicMelb Australia, an MPBL from AAU Australia, and a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1997). Prior to joining Victoria University, he completed postdoctoral work at the Children's Medical Research Institute in Sydney, focusing on alternative telomere lengthening in immortalization.

Dr. Yeager's research spans multiple interconnected domains with strong practical applications. His primary interests include biotechnology applications in food science, particularly examining bioactive compounds from dairy products and heat-stable proteases in long-life milk. He has made significant contributions to understanding ANaerobic AMMonium OXidation (anammox) bacteria and their role in nitrogen cycling and wastewater treatment. More recently, his work has expanded into aquaculture disease management, specifically investigating hydroxyl radical treatments for amoebic gill disease in Atlantic salmon. His research consistently bridges fundamental science with practical applications in food safety, environmental management, and health.
