Thomas Williams is the Isabelle A. and Henry D. Martin Professor of Medieval Philosophy at Georgetown University. His research focuses on medieval philosophy and theology, particularly the works of Augustine, Anselm, Thomas Aquinas, and John Duns Scotus. He has authored and translated numerous seminal texts, including Anselm: A Very Short Introduction and Augustine's Confessions.
Williams received his BA from Vanderbilt University (1988) and PhD from the University of Notre Dame (1994). He has previously held teaching positions at the University of South Florida, University of Iowa, and Creighton University, with a career spanning nearly three decades in Jesuit educational institutions.
His scholarly work covers broad keywords such as Medieval Philosophy, Christian Ethics, and Philosophy of Religion, with sub-fields including Augustinian Studies, Anselm's Ontological Argument, Divine Simplicity, and Duns Scotus's Moral Philosophy.
