Tom Hare is the William Sauter LaPorte '28 Professor in Regional Studies and Professor of Comparative Literature at Princeton University. He has been Chair of the Department of Comparative Literature since 2001, following a prior appointment at Stanford University.

Research Interests
Dr. Hare specializes in Japanese drama and literature up to the 18th century, with a focus on Noh drama, Buddhist cultural history, and jōruri music. He also investigates ancient Egyptian literature, arts, and the interplay of text and image in traditional Japan and Egypt.
