Thomas Tombal is a Researcher affiliated with the Faculty of Law at the University of Namur, where he leads the Centre de Recherche Information, Droit et Société (CRIDS). His work focuses on data governance, legal aspects of technology, and public administration, with a particular emphasis on fraud detection systems and AI ethics. Tombal has been a Co-Investigator in the FLEXPUB project (2016–2020), exploring geospatial data in public services. He has published extensively on EU data legislation, digital markets regulation, and sustainability through data sharing.
Education: Completed his PhD in 2021 under the supervision of Prof. De Terwangne and Prof. De Streel. His doctoral thesis, Imposing data sharing among private actors: a tale of evolving balances, examines legal frameworks for data interoperability.
Research trends in his articles emphasize cross-border regulatory frameworks (e.g., DMA, Data Act), algorithmic accountability in fraud detection, and sustainability through data-driven policies. He frequently engages in policy discussions via workshops and conferences, including organizing sessions on the Digital Markets Act and EU Data Strategy.
