معرفی
Prof. Dr. Thomas Schäpers leads the Quantum Transport in Nanostructures research group at the Semiconductor Nanoelectronics Institute (PGI-9) within Forschungszentrum Jülich. His work bridges fundamental quantum phenomena and next-generation quantum computing hardware through advanced nanofabrication and cryogenic measurement techniques.
Research focuses on three interconnected domains: quantum transport in topological insulator nanostructures (exploring edge states and kink physics), nanowire hybrid structures for scalable quantum circuits, and high-temperature superconductor-based quantum bits. These investigations leverage semiconductor nanowires, topological materials like (Bi1−xSbx)2Te3, and superconducting hybrids to engineer devices with topological protection against decoherence.
Recent publications reveal a strategic shift toward topological insulator-superconductor interfaces and cryogenic filter design, with 2024 work emphasizing impedance-matched filters for quantum hardware, magnetic field modulation in topological kinks, and axial interferometer structures for fault-tolerant qubits. This trajectory underscores a systems-level approach to quantum computing scalability.
Prof. Schäpers actively mentors doctoral researchers Jonas Buchhorn, Jan Karthein, and Justus Teller in experimental nanoelectronics, with group members contributing to collaborative projects involving niobium-topological insulator interfaces and nanowire Josephson junctions.
The group operates within PGI-9's specialized infrastructure, including nanocluster systems for atomic-scale material growth and cleanroom facilities for nanofabrication, enabling precise control over quantum device architectures at millikelvin temperatures.
