معرفی
Thomas Schlathölter is an Associate Professor at the University of Groningen, affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials. He holds a joint position as Director of Academic Staff at University College Groningen. His research focuses on gas-phase biomolecules, radiation-induced processes, and advanced spectroscopic techniques. Schlathölter earned his PhD from the University of Osnabrück in 1996, followed by postdoctoral research at the Kernfysisch Versneller Institute (KVI) under a Marie Curie Fellowship. He has been recognized with awards including the Max-Auwärter Prize and a Fellowship from the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences.
His research explores interactions between biomolecules and radiation, such as laser pulses, synchrotron radiation, and heavy ions. Key projects include developing novel instrumentation for biomolecular ion analysis and studying mechanisms underlying radiotherapy. Notable achievements include discovering a novel multiple electron detachment process in DNA and pioneering soft X-ray spectroscopy for protonation site identification. Schlathölter serves on editorial boards for The European Physical Journal D and Molecules, and contributes to EU COST networks and advisory boards like the iNanoTheRad initiative.
His publications highlight advancements in ion-molecule collisions, radiation damage mechanisms, and astrochemical processes. Awards reflect his contributions to physics and biomolecular research. Schlathölter’s work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in advancing health technologies and environmental science through radiation research.
