University of Massachusetts Amherstمعرفی
Thomas P. Russell is the Silvio O. Conte Distinguished Professor in the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His research focuses on polymer-based nanotechnology, nanoparticle assemblies, and responsive liquid structures. He leads the Russell Research Group, which pioneers work in block copolymer self-assembly, interfacial nanoparticle activity, and 3D-printed liquid constructs.
Education: B.S. Chemistry (Boston State College, 1976); M.S. and Ph.D. in Polymer Science & Engineering (UMass Amherst, 1976–1979).
Research Interests include polymer morphology control, wrinkle/crumple mechanics in thin films, polymer photovoltaics, and nanoparticle surfactant systems. His group employs advanced characterization techniques like neutron/x-ray scattering and laser microscopy.
Honors include membership in the National Academy of Engineering (2008), National Academy of Inventors (2018), and multiple international awards for polymer science contributions. He has authored over 1,000 publications and holds numerous patents in polymer materials.
Active in academic leadership roles, Russell directs the Silvio O. Conte National Center for Polymer Research and serves on editorial/advisory boards for journals like Macromolecules and Soft Matter.
