Thomas Roemer

Thomas Roemer is a Senior Lecturer in Operations Management at MIT Sloan School of Management and Executive Director of the Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) Program since 2014. His research focuses on the intersection of engineering and management, particularly in product development, inventory theory, and supply chain optimization. He previously held positions at UC San Diego Rady School of Management (2006–2014), where he co-founded the Architecture-based Enterprise Systems Engineering (AESE) Program and earned multiple teaching awards.

Roemer holds a Diplom-Ingenieur from Technische Universität Berlin and a PhD from UCLA Anderson School of Management. His work bridges academic theory with practical applications in global operations, with notable contributions to inventory models, scheduling algorithms, and dispersed product development methodologies.

Recent LGO partnerships with Blue Origin and NextEra Energy reflect his industry engagement. He teaches executive education courses on supply chain strategy and operations management, emphasizing MIT’s ‘technology clockspeed’ framework for optimizing global networks.

Key awards include the Robert N. Noyce Assistant Professor title (MIT, 2000–2006) and UCSD’s ‘Outstanding Faculty Teaching’ award (2009).
