Thomas Roebuck is an Associate Professor at the University of East Anglia's School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing, and serves as Associate Dean for Admissions in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. His research focuses on the intellectual cultures of Renaissance and early modern England (1580–1710), particularly scholars' engagement with classical, biblical, and Jewish texts, and the interplay between scholarship and religious/political contexts. He leads teaching on 17th-century literature and Shakespeare, emphasizing close textual analysis.
Roebuck’s current projects include an intellectual biography of Thomas Smith (1638–1710) and the Unlocking the Archive initiative, digitizing East Anglian early modern learned books. He edits Notes and Queries for Oxford University Press and holds roles in the Society for Renaissance Studies. His work has been recognized with a 2021 UEA Innovation and Impact Award Finalist distinction.
He supervises doctoral research on topics like early modern manuscripts, transnational exchanges, and religious historiography. Roebuck’s research outputs span articles on Josephus, medieval historians, and annotated books, reflecting his expertise in archival methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches.
