Thomas Nussbaumer

Thomas Nussbaumer is a Professor of Renewable Energies at the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture (HSLU), leading the Bioenergy Research Group. He holds a Dipl. Masch.-Ing. and Dr. sc. tech. from ETH Zurich, specializing in process engineering and pollutant reduction. His research focuses on biomass combustion, emission control technologies, and renewable energy systems. He has been honored with the 1997 M.U.T. Umweltpreis for environmental innovation.

Education:

• 1989: Dr. sc. tech. ETH Zurich (dissertation on pollutant formation)

Research emphasizes thermal energy systems, bioenergy applications, and sustainable combustion processes. Key projects include fossil-free building heating systems, biomass co-combustion, and particle toxicity analysis. He leads the Holzenergie-Symposium and represents Switzerland in IEA Bioenergy Task 32.
