Anastasia Stamatiou

Anastasia Stamatiou is a Professor at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU), leading the Bachelor's Program in Energy and Environmental Systems Engineering and the Research Group at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Energy Technology. She specializes in thermal energy storage, particularly phase change materials (PCMs), focusing on bio-based and high-performance materials for applications in renewable energy, construction, and battery thermal management. Her work integrates advanced imaging techniques like X-ray computed tomography to study material behavior.

Education: Chemical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), followed by a Master's in Energy Science and Technology at ETH Zurich. She completed her PhD at ETH Zurich on solar thermochemical fuel production.

Research interests include material characterization, heat transfer optimization, and sustainable energy storage solutions. Notable projects involve bio-sourced PCMs for thermal management, asphalt modification with microencapsulated PCMs, and Li-ion battery cooling systems. She has received the SNSF Ambizione Energy Grant and a Best Paper Award at the 2015 Greenstock Conference.

Leadership roles include heading HSLU's Thermal Energy Storage Competence Center (CC TES) and organizing conferences such as the Swiss Symposium on Thermal Energy Storage. Her interdisciplinary research bridges materials science, thermal engineering, and renewable energy systems.
