Thomas Laue is a Lecturer in Music at the School of Music, Australian National University (ANU). He specializes in carillon music, composition, and music education, with a focus on ensemble performance and aural skills pedagogy. His research explores innovative approaches to music education and historical performance practices.
Education & Academic Roles: Served as Professor H. Burton Academic Fellow in Music at ANU (2007–2009). Currently leads the ANU Open School of Music program supported by artsACT.
Research Interests: Carillon composition/arrangement, aural skills education methodologies, and interdisciplinary music projects. Notable works include the 'Boomerang Nebula' composition and collaborative ensemble projects like UnKlung: Parillax Trio.
Awards & Funding: Recipient of multiple grants including Australia Council funding ($61,980.39 total), artsACT support, and international competition prizes. Won the 2017 Canberra Critics Circle Music Award.
Creative Activities: Founded the Canberra Handbell Ensemble and directed the National Carillon Spring School. Curated major commemorative projects like the 50th Anniversary celebrations involving 50 new ensemble works and themed concerts.
