He is also a Fellow of the Convergence Migrations Institute in Paris and maintains research associations with Migrinter, the Maison Française in Oxford, and Kellogg College, Oxford. His work spans multiple institutions and international collaborations, focusing on migration governance at various levels.
Dr. Lacroix earned his PhD in geography and political science from the University of Poitiers in 2003. His academic journey includes research positions at CEDEM (University of Liège), the Jacques Berque Centre (Rabat), CRER (University of Warwick), the International Migration Institute (University of Oxford), Migrinter (University of Poitiers), and the Maison Française in Oxford. He has held prestigious fellowships including Marie Curie and Lavoisier awards.
Thomas Lacroix's research primarily focuses on the relationship between immigrant transnationalism and the state, with particular attention to North African contexts. His work spans several interconnected themes: the relationship between migration and development, diasporic memory, the moral geography of migration, and the theory of transnationalism. More recently, his research has expanded to examine how cities and city networks engage with migration governance, the epistemology of migration studies, and the role of critique in migration research. He actively promotes interdisciplinary dialogue between social sciences and fields like humanities, philosophy, and mathematics.
His recent publications reveal growing attention to Ukrainian migration due to the 2022 Russian invasion, with multiple studies examining refugee trajectories and reception systems. His work consistently bridges theoretical frameworks with empirical research on transnational communities, particularly focusing on Moroccan and North African migration patterns. A notable recent direction involves 'thanatic ethics' - examining the circulation of bodies in migration contexts.
