Thomas Koffas is Professor of Experimental Physics at Carleton University's Department of Physics. His research centers on experimental particle physics as a member of the ATLAS collaboration at CERN, focusing on Higgs boson studies and particle detector development.
His work investigates fundamental particle interactions through high-energy proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Primary research areas include Higgs boson decay mechanisms, silicon sensor technology for detector upgrades, and searches for physics beyond the Standard Model. Recent projects focus on the ATLAS Inner Tracker upgrade for High-Luminosity LHC operations.
Publications reflect contributions to gravitational wave detection, dark matter searches, and detector R&D. Recent articles emphasize silicon sensor performance under radiation, Higgs boson property measurements, and exotic particle searches.
He leads the Carleton ATLAS Group and High-Resolution Beam Telescope Facility, collaborating internationally on ATLAS hardware development and data analysis. Current projects include radiation-hard sensor characterization and precision measurements of Higgs boson decays.
