Dr. Thomas Karg is a PostDoc researcher in the Quantum Optics Lab led by Prof. Philipp Treutlein at the University of Basel since 2021. He completed his PhD in the same group (2015-2020) and holds degrees from ETH Zurich: B.Sc. (2013) and M.Sc. (2014) in Interdisciplinary Sciences. His work focuses on quantum optomechanics, hybrid systems, and quantum metrology, leveraging ultracold atoms and nanomechanical devices. Key achievements include demonstrating light-mediated strong coupling over meter-scale distances (Science 2020) and pioneering remote quantum control techniques.
Research Interests: Karg’s research bridges quantum optics and optomechanics, exploring long-range quantum interactions, quantum memory development, and applications in precision sensing. He investigates atomic spin-oscillator interfaces and demonstrates scalable quantum technologies. His experimental tools include Bose-Einstein condensates, microfabricated vapor cells, and optomechanical cavities.
