Professor Thomas Jacobsen is affiliated with the Department of Experimental Psychology at Helmut-Schmidt-Universität in Hamburg. He leads Project RFC02 under the Cluster of Excellence ‘Understanding Written Artefacts’ (UWA), focusing on valuating handwriting in the digital age through Japanese calligraphy case studies. His research integrates experimental psychology with digital humanities, addressing cultural heritage preservation and human-computer interaction.
Research Interests:
- Psychological aspects of handwriting and digital transformation
- Calligraphy as a cultural and cognitive practice
- Technological preservation of written artefacts
Awards:Recipient of the J. P. Gumbert Dissertation Award. Active in interdisciplinary projects such as the Human-Computer Interaction Lab and Visual Manuscript Analysis Lab.
