Thomas J. Wallin is the John F. Elliott Career Development Professor in Materials Science and Engineering and Assistant Professor at MIT. He leads the Wallin Group, focusing on soft wearable devices, additive manufacturing, and soft robotics. His work integrates materials science, chemistry, and mechanical design to advance human-computer interaction technologies.
Education: BS in Physics/Chemistry from The College of William and Mary (2010), MS/PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell University (2018).
Research interests include soft matter synthesis, device fabrication, and 3D-printed actuators. Notable projects involve 'automatically perspiring soft robots' leveraging sweat-based cooling mechanisms.
