Thomas Haupt is an Associate Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), based in the Department of Architecture and Technology within the Faculty of Architecture and Design. He holds a MArch/BSc (Hons) from Robert Gordon University (Scotland) and a PhD in architecture from NTNU. As a dual professional architect and master stonemason, he specializes in building conservation, adaptive reuse, and industrial heritage preservation. His work spans theoretical research and practical execution, including UNESCO nomination processes for industrial heritage sites like Rjukan and Notodden.
He actively contributes to teaching in NTNU's Traditional Building Crafts program and master's-level architectural education, emphasizing hands-on craftsmanship and historical construction techniques. His research focuses on heritage site analysis, material conservation (stone, brick, concrete), and the historical context of building technologies. He collaborates with Norway's National Heritage Authority (Riksantikvaren) using tools like DIVE for cultural heritage assessment.
Thomas is a member of TICCIH (International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage) and leads projects involving heritage restoration across Europe, including cathedrals, churches, and public buildings. His interdisciplinary approach bridges academic research with practical conservation work in both Norway and internationally.
