Thomas F. Schultz is an Associate Professor of the Practice in Marine Molecular Conservation at Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment and an Associate Professor of the Practice in Biology at Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (1996). His research focuses on conservation genetics, molecular ecology, and environmental adaptation in marine organisms, with emphasis on plastic pollution, deep-sea ecosystems, and population genomics.
He has led grants on topics such as Cuvier's beaked whale ecosystems, estuarine undergraduate research, and global fouling community analysis. Recent courses include Evolutionary Genetics of Marine Mammals and Singapore Urban Ecology programs. His professional activities include Bass Connections projects on whale ecology and bioremediation of plastic pollution.
Key research areas span hybridization dynamics, marine biodiversity conservation, and applications of molecular tools in environmental management. His work bridges laboratory research with field studies, addressing challenges in coastal and deep-sea ecosystems.
