California Institute of Technology (Caltech)معرفی
Thomas F. Rosenbaum is the President of the California Institute of Technology and holds the Sonja and William Davidow Presidential Chair. He is also a Professor of Physics within Caltech's Division of Physics, Mathematics, and Astronomy. His academic journey began with an A.B. from Harvard College (1977), followed by M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Princeton University (1979, 1982).
Education
- A.B., Harvard College, 1977
- M.A., Princeton University, 1979
- Ph.D., Princeton University, 1982
Rosenbaum's research focuses on condensed matter physics, particularly on quantum phase transitions, quantum coherence, and disorder effects in materials. His lab explores collective electronuclear modes, magnon polaritons, and pressure-induced transformations in quantum systems, often combining studies of model compounds with technologically relevant materials under extreme conditions.
Recent publications highlight investigations into Fermi surface anomalies, superconductor-insulator transitions, and topological materials like Weyl semimetals. These works span interdisciplinary themes in quantum mechanics and materials science.
Scientific Awards
- Sonja and William Davidow Presidential Chair (2014-present)
The Rosenbaum Lab, located in Caltech's Division of Physics, Mathematics, and Astronomy, employs experimental techniques at near-absolute-zero temperatures to study quantum critical points, superconductivity, and magnetic systems, while also pursuing applications of collective quantum effects.
