Thomas F. Epper is a Research Director at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and an affiliated professor of Economics at IÉSEG School of Management (Lille & Paris). He serves as Co-Director of the iRisk Research Center on Risk and Uncertainty in France and holds associated memberships at the Center for Economic Behavior and Inequality (CEBI) in Copenhagen and the Risk, Insurance and Savings Laboratory (RISLαβ).
His research focuses on economic decision-making under risk and uncertainty, intertemporal choice, and inequality and redistribution. He integrates economic theory with quantitative methods, analyzing diverse datasets from population experiments to financial markets. Teaching roles include courses in decision theory, information economics, health economics, programming, and survey methodology.
Recent publications explore topics such as the gut microbiome's impact on preferences, dynamic pricing models, and social preferences in redistribution. His work appears in journals like PNAS, American Economic Review, and Econometrica.
Scientific awards include the CNRS Competitive Examinations #1 ranking (2021) and the Latsis Prize from the University of St. Gallen (2017). He has secured grants from ANR, EU Horizon, Swiss National Science Foundation, and other institutions.
He holds a Ph.D. in Management and Economics (summa cum laude) from the University of Zurich and a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Applied Statistics from ETH Zurich. His research collaborations span institutions in Denmark, Switzerland, and Belgium.
