Thomas Eugene Lloyd is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine. His academic journey includes an MD and PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from Baylor, complemented by a BA in Chemistry and Biochemistry from Rice University, and specialized training in neuromuscular medicine, neurology, and internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Education
- MD, Baylor College of Medicine (Graduated with Honors)
- PhD, Baylor College of Medicine (Molecular and Cell Biology)
- BA, Rice University (Chemistry and Biochemistry)
- Neurology Residency, Johns Hopkins Hospital
- Neuromuscular Medicine Fellowship, Johns Hopkins Hospital
Lloyd's research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS and FTD, with a particular emphasis on nucleocytoplasmic transport, stress granules, and TDP-43 pathology. His work also explores mitochondrial transport in axonal degeneration and the role of ESCRT complex in protein degradation, primarily using Drosophila and xenograft models.
The trends in his publications highlight a sustained focus on neurogenetics, RNA biology, and cellular transport mechanisms. His studies bridge basic molecular biology and clinical neurology, particularly in understanding how disruptions in endocytosis, nuclear import, and calcium signaling contribute to disease progression.
