Thomas Edge is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biology within McMaster University's Faculty of Science. His research focuses on water quality monitoring, microbial source tracking, and public health implications of aquatic ecosystems, with emphasis on developing novel detection methods for fecal contamination and harmful algal blooms.
Research spans environmental microbiology, microbial source tracking, and recreational water safety. He has pioneered molecular methods for detecting fecal bacteria and pathogens in complex aquatic systems, contributing to improved water quality assessment frameworks.
Key collaborations include work with the International Joint Commission on transboundary water issues and extensive publications on microbial dynamics in Great Lakes ecosystems.
