Dr. Thomas Eason is a Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at Aston University, serving as PhD Lead for the Department of Politics, History, and International Relations. He joined Aston in 2024 after roles at the University of Lincoln and University of Nottingham. His research focuses on interpretivist approaches to discourse and perceptions in foreign policy, particularly political myth and British foreign policy. Eason holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of Nottingham (2023), an MA (2018), and a BA (2017) from Lincoln University.
Research emphasizes the role of political myth in diplomacy, such as Ukraine’s post-2022 messaging, and covert action governance. He has engaged in impact activities like advising the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and parliamentary discussions on UK-EU relations. Teaching includes modules on International Relations theories, foreign policy analysis, and intelligence studies.
Recent publications explore political myth’s impact on foreign policy narratives and the governance of covert operations. Eason advocates for methodological rigor in analyzing discourse and elite perceptions, contributing to debates on UK-US relations and post-invasion diplomacy.
