Daniel Fitzpatrick is a Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at Aston University's Department of Politics, History and International Relations. He joined Aston in 2016 after roles at the University of Manchester and University of Sheffield. He holds a PhD in Politics from the University of Sheffield (2011) and advanced higher education qualifications from Aston University (2017–2019). His research focuses on theories of the state, nationalism, sports politics, governance, and higher education reform, with a notable book on UK regulatory systems (2016).
Education qualifications include a First Class Honors BA in Politics (2004), MA in Research Methods (2007), and PhD (2011). He is Programme Director of the Aston Social Science Foundation Year and teaches courses like 'Sport and Politics' and 'Philosophy of Social Science Research'.
His research interests emphasize the political economy of football, fan activism, and regulatory frameworks. Recent work explores supporter rights in English football and the European Super League controversy. He co-founded the Football Collective and co-convenes the Political Studies Association's Sport and Politics group.
PhD supervision focuses on regulation theory, sports politics, and British political systems. He actively engages in policy advocacy through submissions to UK parliamentary inquiries on grassroots football and community sport.
