Thomas E. Goud is an Associate Professor in the Department of History and Politics at the University of New Brunswick's Saint John campus. He has been the sole Classicist there since 1994. Born in Estevan, Saskatchewan, he earned a BA in Greek and Latin Honours from the University of Calgary, followed by an MA and PhD in Classics from the University of Toronto.
Dr. Goud’s research focuses on early Christian texts and history, Roman historiography, and Latin literature. His work spans from early interests in Biblical studies to doctoral research on 1st-century CE Latin historiography. He co-chairs the Synoptic Gospels sessions at the Society of Biblical Literature’s international meetings and co-edited Encountering the Parables in Contexts Old and New (2023). Current projects include a book on violence in Matthew and Luke’s 'King Parables' and a co-authored work on Greek/Roman contexts of early Christianity with Dr. Jonathan Lo.
He taught in Rome for over 20 years as co-director of UNB’s Travel Study Programme there (2003–2019). His teaching spans Greek/Roman history, literature, myth, and ancient languages.
