Dr. Thomas Dolan is an Associate Professor and Director of the International Center for Conflict and Creativity and Ethics (ICCAE) at the University of Central Florida (UCF). He is affiliated with the School of Politics, Security, and International Affairs. His research focuses on decision-making in war and conflict, intelligence, insurgency, and the role of emotion in political psychology. He holds a BA from Sewanee: The University of the South and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
Dr. Dolan’s work examines how emotions influence strategic decisions, particularly regarding the use of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and war termination. He uses archival materials from WWII-era French resistance participants to analyze insurgency and intelligence dynamics. His research also explores public opinion on terrorism, just war theory, and the political implications of interconfessional empathy in Lebanon.
His publications appear in journals like International Organization, Political Psychology, and Security Studies. His recent book, Demading the Impossible: War, Bargaining, and Honor, examines honor’s role in wartime negotiations. Though no specific awards are listed, he was highlighted at UCF’s 2024 Founders’ Day Faculty Honors Celebration.
Dr. Dolan’s advising and grants are not detailed here, but his research lab (ICCAE) focuses on creative approaches to conflict resolution and ethics. Office hours are by appointment.
