Thomas DeGloma is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociology at Hunter College, part of the City University of New York (CUNY), within the School of Arts and Sciences. He holds a PhD in Sociology from Rutgers University, along with an MA and BA in Sociology and History (with a Philosophy minor), also from Rutgers. His research focuses on culture, cognition, memory, symbolic interaction, and sociological theory, with notable works exploring anonymity, personal discovery narratives, and contentious memory.

DeGloma’s research interests include the sociology of time, knowledge, autobiography, identity, and trauma. His book Anonymous: The Performance of Hidden Identities earned the ASA Theory Prize and the Cooley Book Award, while Seeing the Light also received the Cooley Award. He has published in journals like Social Psychology Quarterly and Symbolic Interaction, and co-edited volumes such as the Oxford Handbook of Symbolic Interactionism.
