معرفی
Thomas D. Friedrich is a Professor at AMC specializing in virology and molecular biology research. His work focuses on polyomaviruses, particularly Simian Virus 40 (SV40) and BK virus (BKV), and their interactions with host cell mechanisms.
Dr. Friedrich's research interests include:
- Molecular mechanisms of DNA damage response activation by polyomaviruses
- Role of host cell responses in viral replication
- Development of antiviral compounds targeting DNA damage response pathways
- Cell cycle regulation during viral infection
- Identification of drugs to limit polyomavirus replication
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on viral manipulation of host cell cycle controls, particularly through studies of MCM protein binding patterns during SV40 infection and development of antiproliferative agents targeting cyclin dependent kinases. This research spans virology, molecular biology, and medicinal chemistry approaches to understand and combat viral infections.
Dr. Friedrich has received research funding including an R01 grant from the National Cancer Institute (R01 CA028704).
His laboratory investigates how polyomaviruses like SV40 and BKV manipulate host cell DNA replication mechanisms, with particular focus on the minichromosome maintenance (MCM) complex and cell cycle regulatory pathways. This research has implications for understanding viral pathogenesis and developing antiviral therapies, especially for immunocompromised patients such as organ transplant recipients.
