معرفی
Thomas Cornelius is a Senior Researcher at Aalborg University’s Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of the Built Environment, based in Copenhagen. He leads the Building Physics Research Group and is the university’s go-to specialist on structural safety of existing buildings, Danish building-code interpretation, and balcony/green-roof performance.
Research focus: His work integrates on-site inspection with numerical modelling to assess load-bearing capacity, air-tightness, moisture behaviour and radon ingress in existing Danish structures. Recent projects cover safety analyses of old masonry walls, documentation rules for certified static advisers, and guidance on 2018 building-regulation compliance.
Industry impact: Cornelius is a frequent media commentator on structural failures (hotel collapses, crumbling concrete balconies) and routinely gives the two-day professional course "Bygningsreglementet – kurset som giver dig det store overblik" together with colleagues from SBi (Danish Building Research Institute).
Scientific output: 40 peer-reviewed works since 2010, including journal papers on radon mitigation, masonry non-linear analysis, green-roof state-of-the-art reports, and comprehensive timber-in-construction barrier studies. No personal awards or fellowships are mentioned in the available material.
Funding & teams: 15 completed or active projects (2008-2024) worth >30 M DKK from the Danish Transport and Housing Authority, balcony owners’ associations and consultancy contracts. He collaborates with SBi colleagues (E. de Place Hansen, N.-J. Aagaard, B. Feddersen) and industry partners but no graduate students are explicitly listed.
