Thomas Cong is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Artificial Intelligence at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation, Centre for Health Informatics, Macquarie University. He earned his PhD in Computer Science (2020–2024) and Master of IT from the University of New South Wales. His research focuses on medical imaging, specifically stain normalization, class imbalance learning, and prompt-based learning in histopathology and neuro-oncology.
- Education: PhD in Computer Science (University of New South Wales, 2024), Master of IT (University of New South Wales, 2019)
His work addresses key computational challenges in digital pathology, including semi-supervised tumor segmentation, adaptive contrastive learning, and EGFR amplification prediction using Bayesian methods. Recent projects emphasize generative AI for synthetic medical imaging and AI-assisted histopathology computing.
Selected publications highlight applications of deep learning, variational autoencoders, and graph-based feature aggregation in medical imaging. Awards include the Norman Foo Memorial Best Research Paper Prize (2023) and the RISING STAR Prize (2024). Collaborations span institutions like Carnegie Mellon University and the University of New South Wales, focusing on computational neurosurgery and biomedical imaging.
