Thomas O. Carpenter, MD, is a Professor of Pediatrics (Endocrinology) and of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at Yale School of Medicine. He holds a Clinical Professor appointment in Nursing and leads the Yale Center for X-Linked Hypophosphatemia (XLH), focusing on metabolic bone disorders. His research emphasizes XLH pathophysiology, vitamin D metabolism, and novel therapies. Dr. Carpenter has over 200 publications and serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.
Education: MD from University of Alabama (1977), residency at University of Alabama Hospitals (1980), and fellowship at Harvard Medical School/Children’s Hospital Boston (1983).
Research interests include XLH management, phosphate regulation, and bone mineralization. He leads clinical trials for XLH and osteogenesis imperfecta, with a focus on burosumab and setrusumab therapies. Key awards include the Yale Distinguished Clinical Career Award (2022) and the Pfizer/Endocrine Society Excellence Award (2006).
Dr. Carpenter collaborates with Karl Insogna, Demetrios Braddock, and others on XLH and bone-related studies. His work spans translational research, clinical guidelines, and rare disease advocacy.
