Thomas Burman

Thomas Burman is Professor and Robert M. Conway Director of the Medieval Institute at the University of Notre Dame. His research centers on Jewish-Christian-Muslim intellectual and cultural exchanges in the medieval Mediterranean world. He holds a PhD from the University of Toronto.

Burman explores religious polemics and cultural interactions through key publications like Reading the Qur'an in Latin Christendom and The Sea in the Middle. His work spans Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East during the medieval period.

His research investigates intellectual networks, translation movements, and interfaith dynamics. Current projects include a book on Dominican missionary Ramon Martí's engagement with Islamic and Jewish texts.
