Thomas Buchele serves as Clinical Professor of Law and Managing Attorney at Lewis & Clark College's Earthrise Law Center within the Law School. He leads the center's land management and natural resources practice while maintaining active litigation in energy and transportation law sectors.
His academic credentials include:
- JD, magna cum laude, 1986, University of Illinois College of Law
- BA, magna cum laude, 1982, Illinois Wesleyan University
Professor Buchele's expertise spans Environmental Law, Natural Resources Law, and Energy Regulation, with significant contributions to public resource protection through complex litigation. His clinical teaching focuses on practical environmental advocacy through courses like Environmental Clinic I and Earthrise Ethics I.
Prior to Lewis & Clark, he directed the environmental law clinic at the University of Pittsburgh for seven years, served as staff attorney at the Environmental Law & Policy Center of the Midwest, and practiced complex commercial litigation as a partner at Jenner & Block in Chicago.
Outside academia, he maintains active engagement with Oregon's natural environment through gardening, baking, canning, and hiking with his dog Peggy.
