Thomas Braunl

Thomas Braunl is a Professor at The University of Western Australia (UWA), affiliated with the School of Engineering and the International Space Centre. He leads the Robotics & Automation Lab and directs the Renewable Energy Vehicle (REV) Project. His roles include Head of the CIIPS Research Group and Technical Director of the WA Electric Vehicle Trial.

Research Interests: Electromobility, autonomous driving, robotics, and simulation systems. Key projects include autonomous shuttle buses, hydrofoil electric jetskis, and EV charging infrastructure for Western Australia. His recent books include Embedded Robotics (2022) and Mobile Robot Programming (2023).

Grants & Projects: Investigator in multiple ARC-funded initiatives, including the ARC Training Centre for Automated Vehicles in Rural and Remote Regions (AVR3) and EV feasibility studies for regional schools. Over 20 grants spanning electromobility, safety systems, and transportation innovation.
