معرفی
Thomas Berrett is an Associate Professor (Reader) in the Department of Statistics at the University of Warwick. Previously, he held postdoctoral positions at CREST, ENSAE, Institut Polytechnique de Paris (2019–2020) and the Statistical Laboratory at the University of Cambridge (2017–2019). His research focuses on nonparametric statistical methods, including entropy estimation, independence testing, classification, and applications of nearest neighbor methods under privacy constraints. He has received prestigious awards such as the ERC Starting Grant (2024–2029) and the Royal Statistical Society Research Prize (2020). Berrett is also the Intercalated Year Coordinator at Warwick, guiding students in industry placements and study abroad programs at institutions like TU Dresden and the University of Hong Kong.
Research Interests: Nonparametric statistics, statistical methodology, privacy-preserving analysis (e.g., differential privacy), missing data imputation, and applications in classification and hypothesis testing. His work bridges theoretical advancements with practical challenges in data privacy and robust statistical inference.
Grants & Awards:
- ERC Starting Grant (2024–2029)
- Bernoulli Society New Researcher Award (2023, Honourable Mention)
- EPSRC New Investigator Award (2022–2024)
- IMS New Researcher Travel Award (2020)
- Royal Statistical Society Research Prize (2020)
Teaching & Service: Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Taught courses on Multivariate Statistics, Nonparametric Estimation, and Statistical Theory at both Cambridge and Warwick. Organized workshops on distributed data analysis and entropy estimation in collaboration with leading institutions.
