معرفی
Dafydd Evans is a Lecturer in Operational Research at the School of Mathematics, Cardiff University. His academic career spans over two decades at Cardiff University, where he has held positions as a Research Associate, Royal Society University Research Fellow, and currently as a Lecturer in Mathematics since 2011.
His educational background includes a PhD in Mathematics from Cardiff University (2001), an MSc in Mathematics from the University of London (1994), and a BSc in Mathematics from University College London (1993).
Dr. Evans' research focuses on nearest neighbour statistics, nonparametric entropy estimation, and mathematics teaching methodologies. His work bridges theoretical statistics with practical applications in signal processing and information theory. He has developed novel approaches to entropy-based testing, noise estimation, and mutual information calculation, with applications ranging from sonar technology to nonlinear time series analysis.
His publication record shows a consistent trajectory in statistical methodology development, with recent work focusing on entropy-based tests for generalized Gaussian distributions and earlier foundational work on nearest neighbor statistics and gamma test theory. His research demonstrates strong connections between pure statistical theory and practical engineering applications.
As an educator, Dr. Evans teaches MA1500 Introduction to Probability Theory, MA2500 Foundations of Probability & Statistics, and MAT022 Foundations of Statistics and Data Science. He serves as the School's Academic Lead for Employability and runs the School's Placement Learning Programme, demonstrating his commitment to student professional development.
Based at Abacws, Room 2.06 in Cardiff's Cathays campus, Dr. Evans continues to contribute to both the theoretical foundations of statistical methodology and the practical application of mathematical principles in real-world contexts.
